What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is often loosely applied to any form of natural or holistic medicine.   However, homeopathy is a specific type of treatment.   It uses minute and highly diluted doses of a substance that prompts the body to return to a state of harmonious balance.

God made the human body so amazingly flexible and resilient.   It always seeks balance.   Illness or injury unbalances the body and its intricate systems.     In the face of this imbalance, all body systems rally to restore balance using all the resources at their disposal. Homeopathy is a powerful ally, providing tools for the body to battle effectively.

Homeopathy is based on the "Law of Similars."  Hippocrates wrote in the 4th century BC, "Through the like, disease is produced, and through the application of the like, it is cured."   Samual Hahnemann, a physician in the 1700s, became disenchanted by what he felt were barbaric medical practices, including bloodletting and the administration of mercury.   He built on Hippocrates foundational theory with the "law of Similars."  "Homoios" in Greek means similar, "pathos" means suffering. Homeopathy means Similar Suffering. We choose a remedy to treat any condition based on its ability to heal similar symptoms. The remedy that causes specific symptoms in its gross form, in its highly diluted homeopathic form, becomes a powerful tool to aid the body in restoring balance.

Hahnemann discovered that diluting plant, animal, and mineral substances to different levels (such as X, C, or M) and succussing repeatedly creates remedies the body can use to restore balance.    Hahnemann successfully applied these dilute remedies, giving him the title he is credited as the father of homeopathy.

The MIND

The rest of this story is about how the mental/emotional state of one's mind deeply affects the body.   The cells of our bodies react and adapt to their environment.   When our minds are in a state of peaceful calm, our bodies are also serene and calm, working harmoniously and in balance.   But just as emotional/mental trauma creates a hostile environment in our spirit, it also creates a hostile environment in our bodies.   We are out of balance and begin a domino effect of ill health and disease …  "dis – ease."

Homeopathy doesn't cure anything.   Instead, it provides the body with tools for healing.   These tools can help calm the mind and repair physical issues.
